Since its relocation to The Gambia in 1991, WAII has jointly with the
country’s Management Development Institute (MDI) run training programmes
for Chief Executives and personnel of Insurance Organisations and other
Institutions at their requests. WAII is also in the process of providing
in-house training courses for specific organisations as well as providing
Consultancy Services for financial institutions. WAII is determined to
contribute effectively in promoting the socio-economic development of The
Gambia by producing sound middle-level Insurance professionals capable of
providing excellent services to conserve needed foreign exchange for the
nation.
i) In October 1985, at
Beijing China, the WAII was admitted as Associate Member of the Federation
of Afro Asian Insurers and Reinsures (FAIR).
ii) In September, 1986, the Institute was made an Affiliate of the British
Chartered Insurance Institute (CII)
iii) In October 1997, the Institute was made a member of the Institute for
Global Insurance Education (IGIE) formed by the Insurance professional
Bodies of the U.K. (CII), USA (CPCU); and Canada (IIN).
iv) In October 1990, the Institute was made a pioneer member of The
Association of African Insurance Educators and Trainers (AAIET). The
Institute also produced the first class Secretary-General of the
Association
v) In 1982, the African Insurance Organization (AIO), in recognition of the
modest contribution of the Institute to the Development of African
Insurance Market, donated a first class award Certificate and a Gold Medal
to the Institute.
vi) In 1982, the CICA also donated a medal to the Institute for excellent
performance.
vii) In May 1997, AIO once again awarded WAII a Certificate of
Appreciation.
