The Governing Council established the Academic Board with the overall responsibility for appraising, reviewing and approving academic programmes of the Institution. The Institute has the following wings:

The College of Insurance and Risk Management
Richelieu Dennis International Insurance Research Centre and Library.

 



As a member of the Association of African Insurance Educators and Trainers (AAIET) WAII promotes practical training programmes for Middle level Managers of Insurance Institutions in the West Africa sub-region.

However, due to its achievements in these areas in two decades and its potentials to provide the much needed human resources development and training at all levels of management, the Institute has been refocused to provide training programmes that would meet changing business needs of the insurance market in the sub-region.

New training programmes have been designed from the year 2002 as follows:



1.INSURANCE FOUNDATION CERTIFICATE COURSE (IFC)

This programme is designed as a stand-alone qualification in Insurance. It is the first for anyone who is entering into insurance without any insurance background or prerequisite qualification for entry into the WAII one-year programme in Banjul, The Gambia. The IFC consist of the following courses:

FCO1 - Insurance, the Market, Legal and Regulatory Background
FCO2 - Communication Skills
FCO3 - Introduction to General Insurance Business
FCO4 - Introduction of Life Assurance Business
FCO5 - Insurance Marketing and Agency Management.

2. ONE YEAR DIPLOMA PROGRAMME

This is a step beyond the IFC. It is one year full-time Residential Course in Banjul, The Gambia. The programme is designed on two-semester basis to cover Technical (TC) Management (MC) and General Courses (GC) as well as handle a project work in chosen are of Insurance studies. Each of these programmes is for week duration and the fee is US $200.

4. ADVANCED CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE PRACTICE

The Institute has plans to start the Advance programme by the year 2004 with specialisation in the following areas:

ACC:02 Life Assurance Business
ACC:03 Reinsurance Business
ACC:04 Insurance Broking
ACC:05 Professional Life Assurance Salesmanship
ACC:06 Health Insurance
ACC:07 Insurance Management

These programmes are for three months duration and they will be run at Banjul, The Gambia.
